Yamaha Music School Keyboard Classes

Learning keyboard is an excellent introduction to the world of music for the budding  young musician. The keys are light making it easier for the young player’s small fingers.  Keyboards needn’t cost the earth and your child can practice with headphones on (peace and quiet).   It also provides a sound grounding for moving on to piano (our keyboard course works on 2-handed piano skills throughout).    Most importantly learning keyboard with Yamaha Music School is fun and if it’s fun, children are more likely to practice.

We are proud to offer the following Yamaha Music School courses in Keyboard

  • Junior Play for Keeps – Group classes for 6 to 7 year olds
  • Play for Keeps  – Group Classes for 8 years to adult (we tailor the course to suit the age group of the students)
  • Individual One to One Keyboard Tuition  – all ages

About Our Yamaha Music School Keyboard Course

Our Classes follow the unique Yamaha Music School approach to learning:  Listen, Copy, Play and soon after Read Music.  A natural way to learn just like we all learnt to speak, encouraging intuitive music skills with the theory following not long after.  Our group lessons make learning a musical instrument fun, sociable and affordable.  Whilst the unique, proven & structured Yamaha Music school teaching system allows children to flourish musically.  Plus, the performing within our small groups encourages team play and the building of confidence.

The Yamaha Music School course is affiliated with the Trinity College Exam Syllabus with the opportunity to sit Grades 1-8 (with Grades 6-8 attracting UCAS University entrance points and Grade 6 being accredited the same points as a “Higher” subject ).   As well as following the syllabus we’ll also mix in popular and chart music .
All our teachers receive regular training and observations from Yamaha Music School HQ

Junior Play for Keeps (JPFK)

The perfect introduction in to the world of music, keyboard (and possibly in the future piano) for the young player, 5-7 years, when their attention spans and fine motor skills increase rapidly. Here we create a fun and stimulating learning environment which involves listening, singing, playing and reading activities using imitation, relay and team techniques. We use the unique and proven Yamaha learning technique of Listen, Copy, Play and later Read Music (just like we all learnt to talk). Your child will receive a thorough understanding of keyboard and music fundamentals and will be able to operate a keyboard with confidence and good technique. They will have been taught to play by ear and read from traditional notation. As well as solo playing your child will have learnt to accompany other musicians, and have taken their first steps in arranging, composing and recording their own music.  We also spend time on piano playing technique.  Whilst also focusing on musical growth we also make this class lots of fun with lots of singing and rhythmic participation involved too.
